Floods At Elegu Township

Meteorologists have warned that districts in northern Uganda will experience heavy rain in August.

The warning comes on the heel of flash flood that left at least 23 dead in Mbale, eastern Uganda.

According to the monthly weather update for the month of August, the Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA), said areas of northern, eastern and mid-western regions are likely to receive enhanced rainfall while the rest of the country is likely to receive occasional rainfall.

David Elweru, the acting Executive Director, Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA), noted that generally, the month of August forms the last months of the rainfall season and is always characterized by the southward movement of the rainfall from the north.

Districts in northern Uganda endured prolonged dry spell characterized by high temperatures.

But on Saturday, several districts in Acholi sub region received heavy rain after nearly three months of lack of rain.
